And finally ... some miscellaneous favorite things of 2010

Here are some of my random favorite things of 2010:

Book: Siddartha Mukherjee's Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer. I lost a loved one to cancer this year and it was absolutely chilling to read that about 5,000 years ago, in Ancient Egypt, a doctor wrote about metastatic breast cancer. The treatment: "there is no treatment." Just one of the many fascinating parts of Mukherjee's exhaustively researched book.

Movie: Toy Story 3. I've followed the Toy Story series since the beginning, but I didn't expect to be crying my eyes out at the end of the movie. Well done, Pixar.

Pop Song: "Love the Way You Lie" by Rihanna and Eminem. An instant classic. Rihanna's anthem-like torch song set against Eminem's abrasive, creepy, abusive lyrics.

Viral video: Miss Philippines makes it to the top 15 in Miss Universe. Some guys are happy about this.

Unintentionally funny moment: Lebron James' completely self-absorbed announcement of him "taking his talents" to Miami, along with ESPN's breathless coverage of the whole affair.

Political moment: The final repeal of the shameful DADT law. A big cheers to the lame-duck Democrats, the six Republicans, and President Obama for finally making it happen.

Tea Party gem: Oh there are so many, but Christine O'Donnell not knowing the amendments she supposedly wants to repeal and then not knowing the details of the first amendment was priceless.
